I bought a new iMac and migrated my former Mac using the "Migration Assistant" provided by Apple to migrate everything (user data and applications); it lasted approx. 15 hours. Both machines were running macOS 10.12.5 (latest version).
The new machine worked fine for a day, until suddenly all file permissions went berserk (I could not again access my files). This happened right after having started Fusion 7.1.3, which asked my password to perform some tasks. I called the Apple support, which could not provide any help besides manually correcting all file permissions. So I reformatted the new machine and migrated again, but this time I didn't migrate applications : Apple advised me to re-install them afterwhile, especially the number 1 suspect (Fusion 7.1.3).
The new new machine worked fine for a while, until I reinstalled Fusion and started it : it immediately corrupted all permissions, rendering the machine unusable again. I had to reformat + migrate again (15 hours again).
The new new new machine is now running fine, but how can I use again VMWare Fusion without killing it again ?
Any help is welcome...
BTW : my issue looks a bit this one : Permission destruction?
Hi,
As the last post in that thread that you reference states, the issue between Fusion and macOS Sierra and <unknown factor> has been corrected in the last update of Fusion (version 8.5.8). The same thread also mentions that nothing has changed in that part of the VMware Fusion installer in a long time, so it is very likely that you are indeed bumping into that same issue on Fusion 7.
Fusion 7 unfortunately has been end of life for a while, so no fixes are expected on that version any more.

7.1.3 is not compatible with Sierra - you need up upgrade to 8.5.x.

I have used 7.1.3 on Sierra during one year, I can safely say that it can work. However, it is true that I didn't install 7.1.3 on Sierra, I installed it on a previous version and later upgraded macOS to Sierra.
Hence, I think that 7.1.3 is compatible with Sierra, but not its installer. Right ?
You got lucky - it's not supported and has known issues, including complete failure to launch or run.
Upgrading is the best option. Even 8 wasn't supported on Sierra - 8.5 is a free upgrade that is.
