What are other doing for profile management in a Horizon 7 Environment?

Hello all,

I'm hoping to get some insight as to what other organizations are doing to manage users profiles.  My company has about 700 users and we currently store most of our profile data on persistent disk.  We do you folder redirection enforced by group policy for things like desktop, document and download folders.  I've heard good things about VMware's EUM (Enterprise User Manager) and also Liquidware Labs Profile Unity.  EUM requires Horizon Enterprise which would also entitle us to other features such as vRealize and App Volumes, which seems very attractive but pricey.

I would welcome your feedback, recommendations and any pros and cons or things I maybe haven't considered!!

Roger, we use Ivanti (aka AppSense) for user profile management. We've been using it on our desktops (2,000) for about 18 months and have been using it in our Citrix environment for 3 years. Takes some time to tweak, but overall has been a good product. You might want to look at RES https://res.com/products/res-one-workspace as well.

I've heard good things about Liquidware Labs, but more on the application layering side vs user profile.

Hi Roger,

We have been using Appsense but have been having some issues with its ability to capture everything in the user profile or its ability to import back. Also, with Appsense, we have to remove the registry entries (group and member ID) from the gold image every time we power up. Also, not liking the support provided by Appsense (Ivanti).

We are testing VMware UEM and so far it is looking very good. You can get UEM as a standalone solution as well.

I am trying to implement UEM in my organisation for 200 users. I have installed and profiles are exporing and importing properly. but my doubts are

     Do we need to install printer drivers in golden image for mapping printers?

     Can we migrate Group policies from GPM to UEM?

     How can I remove some applications (ex: Windows Fax and Scan, Connect to a Projector etc..)  from programs menu through UEM?

last customer only used persona management + windows policies. Current uses RES/Ivanti Workspace another one uses VMware UEM but didn't work on that myself.

Sorry have been busy with other projects. To answer your question - it depends. You may need to install if using unsigned drivers. You should test thoroughly if you want to incorporate all GPO's in UEM. There are some articles out there that explain on this. You may be able to hide the applications you don't want in the programs menu through UEM. Haven't tested this much though.
