Host Profiles vs. Configuration Backup/Restore

Hi all,

i would like to know what exactly the difference between Host Profiles vs. Configuration Backup/Restore is?!

I think that you can backup and restore ESXi Hosts with both ways... But what is the difference???

Host profiles enables you to establish standard configurations (like, syslog server, NTP server, ssh settings etc) on multiple hypervisors in a vCenter. It wont copy the settings specific to a host like IP address, hostname etc.  vCenter is required to enable Host Profile feature.

Whereas ESXi config backup will copy the settings of the host. It will help you to save in configuring the host after a re-install.

Hi yezdi Smiley Happy

ok i understand. Thank you

Do you know a website where i can see which configuration settings containing "ESXi Config Backups" and "Host Profiles"?

I would like to see what else is missing in Host Profiles except of IP Address and Hostname.
