Migration Path from vCS 6.0 Embedded to vCSA 6.5 External

Hi. We're currently running vCenter Server (Windows) 6.0 Build 3016447 with an embedded PSC and a local SQL installation.

I'd like to get this migrated to a 2x vCSA setup, with 2x external PSC, using PostgreSQL, with ELM.

Would really appreciate thoughts on the best method of getting "from A to B".

Should we split out the PSC role now, then upgrade to 6.5? or vice versa?

Ideally I would like to keep all VM IDs, and data in tact as we have Veeam and I don't want to cause full backups if I lose CBT data.

Thanks

Hi,

I think the best way is :

- Migrate your windows vcenter to VCSA embeded 6.5

- Deploye a PSC server only

- Use command line cmsso-util on VCSA 6.5 to choose an external PSC server (Juste deployed)

Be careful, if you want two PSC server you must need a load balancer front in it.

Thank you.

Surely the load balancer is optional?

If one of my vCenter servers loses it's respective PSC I can surely repoint it at the other PSC?

...... this blog article explains quite well that the LB is optional, and actually the LBs seem like an over-architected complexity that really isn't that necessary.
