How to remove a merged disk?

Hi.

Yesterday, I merged my second 4TB HDD to the first 4TB HDD, to get more space, and still wanted it to act like one.

But now I can´t run 2 VM at one time, so I want to undo this.

Can I do this, without loosing the data on my first HDD?

I have not used it, after the merge, so it is not with data.

I´m using ESXI 5.5.

I have searched the internet, but I did not find a solution Smiley Sad

Hi,

How much storage do you have left then?

Have you overcomitted storage?

Am I understanding this correctly, you expanded the datastore by adding an extent (the second HDD)?

In this case there's unfortunately no supported way to remove the extent again, see https://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003344

i think, now it is showing as single datastore. In this case, take a backup of all vms in the datastore. Shutdown the ESXi host and remove the second hdd. Rescan the storage again to use the first disk datastore only. Hopefully you will retain the directories available in the first disk.

Obviously you never tried this yourself - so may I ask why you give such a tip to somebody else ?

What you suggest is what I would call sabotage !!!!
