cannot download web client integration plugin

Hi,

I've just updated our vCenter Server Appliance to version 5.5.0 Update 3e (Appliance Version: 5.5.0.30500 Build 4180648), and everything is working perfectly so far.

But when I open the vSphere web client and click on the link that reads "Download the Client Integration Plug-In" I get the following error

Screenshot from 2017-05-18 13-08-24.png

Please notice that even though we're running a 5.5.0 version it is trying to download a 5.6.0 plug-in ... is this correct?

This is on Chrome Version 59.0.3071.47 (Official Build) beta (64-bit), Ubuntu Linux.

Oops. Just read your initial post again. CIP would not work on linux. You would have to switch to windows to use CIP features like "deploy ovf", import /export  if you stil want to access VC.

If you find this or any other answer useful please mark the answer as correct or helpful.

Hi virtfer

We have an issue with accessing CIP in vsphere web client on chrome 58 and 59 and we have plans to resolve them in the next 55 and 60 releases.

Also the CIP version 5.6.0 is the right one for 55u3e.

Could you please try with older versions of chrome and let us know if you still see issues.

Great, thanks GaneshRam,

just as a way of making sure I understand what you're saying this applies to CIP in Linux, correct?

what is the timeframe for the next 55 and 60 releases? Thanks!

Regarding the release dates of next 55 and 60 releases ,I would not be able to confirm that right now.

OK Thanks GaneshRam for clarifying this.

Then may we request that VMware remove all links to 'Download Client Integration Plug-in' in Linux platforms or instead shows a clear Error, such as "CIP is not supported in this platform" instead of displaying obscure messages like the above (see my screenshot).

It's a sad state of affairs, not only for the lack of support of CIP in Linux, but for the sheer lack of consideration for us users that the error messages reveal. would have saved lots of precious time if the error message was more sincere and direct.

I can confirm that it does not work on Firefox either. After installing CIP (VMware-ClientIntegrationPlugin-5.6.0.exe) and refreshing the browser, still all attemtps to e.g. upload a file to a datastore folder lead to a 'Install CIP to enable file transfers'

This is on Windows 10, 32bits:

Firefox 53.0.3 (32bit): CIP does not work

Chrome 58.0.3029.110: CIP does not work

vSphere Web Client: Version 5.5.0 Build 4063694

So it is not just Chrome 58 and 59 that don't work.
