Running linked-clone floating pool Windows 10 1607 and no-refresh. Want to get rid of local profiles building up on the vm's at logoff. Always had this setting with Persona Management, now trialing UEM. Using ADMX-based settings template with Remove Local Profile at Logoff. This setting causes Edge, Calc etc to disappear at next login. Any ideas what to use instead?
Hi vmstrom,
Are you sure this happens specifically with the "Remove Local Profile at Logoff" setting? Or is this happening in general? What happens when you disable/remove the "Remove Local Profile at Logoff" setting and let a user log off and log on to a different VDI desktop in the pool? Are Edge and Calc available then?
I am trying to understand if this is a configuration issue/bug or if this is happening because of a Config File issue (or the lack of the existence of one).
B.t.w. you may also consider to recreate the VDI desktop at logoff, if possible.
This happens only when i have this setting enabled. If i enter at vm that has not been used it seems ok first time, next time the apps is gone.
So for my understanding. With the "Remove Local Profile at Logoff" setting enabled. The following happens:
- The user logs on and has Edge and Calc available (are we talking shortcuts here?)
- The user logs off and the profile is deleted
- The user logs on again (same or different Win10 desktop) and Edge and Calc are unavailable
Is above description correct?
What type of profile are you using? Local/Mandatory?
Are you able to provide us the debug log? --> "To increase the log-level for a specific user add create a flexdebug.txt file in the user's folder where the log files are created."
Thtas right, the apps arent even searchable on the machine anymore. It is the local profile on the actual vm we're talking about. we dont want to hoard up a lot of profiles on them locally.
Attached pls find the debug logs from this sequence:
-Login to the actual pool, everything seems fine
-Logoff
-Login to the same vm on the actual pool, Edge, Calc, Maps, Alarms, Sticky Notes etc is gone
-Logoff
I didn't find anything unusual in the debug log. However, I managed to reproduce the issue you have using Windows 10 (1607) and by using the same configuration. What I have is that sometimes the local profile can't completely be removed, because C:\Users\UserXX\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\Edb*.* and vedatamodel.edb are in use at logoff and can't be deleted.
I am further investigating the issue when I can. I will update this thread as soon as I have new information.
I've seen the same issue, and for now I recommend to not use the ‘remove local profile at logoff’ option in the Advanced UEM GPO for Windows 10.
This function does not work correct on Windows 10, because it leaves traces to the user profile in the HKLM registry. This causes the taskbar and start menu to not work correct on next logon. All modern/universal apps will not work and icons/tiles for those are missing. This included Edge, this app no longer works.
I think these are the keys where user information is left behind:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppReadiness
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx
Anyone that has any news on this how to get rid of the local profile when logoff. As i mentioned first, this worked fine i Persona Mgmt.
Hi,
As you are using non persisting pools, please see the pool settings and make sure it matches as below
and also what version of windows are you using pro or enterprise? what is the version of view?
Thank you.
We are not refreshing them, they are persisting. Thats the problem, a lot of local profiles fills up on the vm's. We use Windows 10 1607 and Horizon 7.2.
As Pim mentioned above, is this still not recommended? Seems to be a problem with a profile mgmt tool that we pay money for that cant handle deleting of the local profile as the user log off when the free mgmt tool Persona Management could handle it.
I'm not sure Persona is doing this correct on Windows 10. The issues is caused by Windows 10, not by UEM.
But if it's just the cleanup of local profiles that you care about, why not use a simple tool like this:
Hi vmstrom,
As you are using floating pools you have to refresh desktop since you are not using dedicated machines.
on your OS I was asking are you using windows enterprise edition or Pro? because view 7.2 will support only windows10 1607 enterprise [only fresh installer].
for more info on OS compatibility "Supported versions of Windows 10 on Horizon 7 Including All VDI Clones (Full Clones, Linked Clones, ... "
Regards.
Its a pity though that UEM doesnt manage this like Persona Mgmt did, as UEM is paid extra for.
Do you have an example of using UEM and delprof to get rid of the profile from someone logging out?
