Beta versions of Windows XP are not a supported Guest OS.

Sorry for the bump. But you are continuing to post because beta versions of Windows XP can be installed.

Whether or not a beta version of Windows XP can or cannot be installed is irrelevant!  What's relevant is, it is not supported and as such, especially in light of it age I wouldn't waste my time trying to help get it installed at this point in time much less two and a half years ago when you first posted this! Yeah. You installed the beta version of Windows XP named Whistler. It works except that you want VMware Tools installed on your virtual machines.

I actually run quite a few supported Guest OSes without ever installing VMware Tools so I really don't see it as a big deal.  Additionally AFAIC IMO there is no good practical reason for running a beta version of an old OS that's over 10 years old and also in which the last stable release of reached it's end of mainstream support over 3 years ago.  Suggest you step into the 21st century! How do you install Whistler 2296 (by changing the date)? Yeah and beta versions of Windows can be installed.

I never said you cannot install beta version of Windows! Smiley Wink  I originally said on Nov 1, 2010 4:28 PM, "Beta versions of Windows XP are not a supported Guest OS." and at that time much less two and a half years later it is still not supported and never will be supported again and not supported doesn't mean it can't be installed however with unsupported versions it is normal and expected that there be issues and not unusual when installing VMware Tools.

If you have a issue with a supported version of an OS being used for legitimate purposes I'd be more then glad to help and maybe even go to great lengths as I have countless times for many others in the past however you no longer have a legal right to be using beta versions of Windows XP regardless of whether you can install it!  Since you are violating the EULA for the version of Windows your using it is against the VMware Community Terms of Use to assist you in your illicit use of copyrighted intellectual property belonging to Microsoft that you have no legal rights to be using.

You are necro-bumping this post so you are not violating the EULA. You ripped off some typefaces (like Times, Geneva, Chicago, Helvetica, Courier, Albertus, Palatino and more) from HP LaserJet to create new typefaces (containing characters required for Indo-Tibetan studies) using FontCreator older versions. So, you can install beta versions to your VMware list without any problems after you set the BIOS date for a long time.

Hi there! It's been a long time since you posted this. Windows beta versions are not supported on VMWare so you need to manually install the drivers. Not to worry because you can be able to manually install them by downloading the VMWare 7.0 driver package.

1. Shut down the guest machine and go to you're host machine.

2. Go to this website for the VMWare driver package: VMware driver package. Scroll down and to where you see the VMWare Driver Package versions. Download the 7.0 version for the latest drivers on Whistler. It comes in a zip file called "hounsell.zip"

3. Go to Settings and then choose CDROM on whether version of the VMWare Driver Package you use. (make sure to extract hounsell.zip before this step)

4. Go to the VM settings, Click CDROM (IDE), locate the iso file and then click open.

5. Startup the guest machine, then click Run, then type devmgmt.msc, Press Enter, then locate the drivers that you need to install and update all of the missing drivers. You will see a working saying that the drivers are not compatible with Whistler but ignore the message as nothing was ever compatible with Whistler and the drivers will be downloaded. Once after that, all the drivers will be installed so reboot the guest machine and Enjoy your precious Windows Whistler with all the drivers installed.

Hope this helps,

Brandon

Hello. I saw your reply saying that Beta versions of Windows XP are not a supported Guest OS and you say that he is violating the EULA for the version of windows. While I agree with you saying that beta versions of windows xp are not a supported guest OS, the beta versions of Microsoft Windows are not copyrighted by Microsoft and that doesn't violate the End-User-Licensing-Agreement (EULA) which doesn't violate the VMWare Community Terms-of-Use.
