Under vCenter Server 6.5C, NSX 6.3.1,I can not finish Host installation.

I try to install NSX 6.3.1 under vCenter Server 6.5C.  With many tries to use "resolve" under operations context menu, NSX always says "not ready" in the installation column.

What matter with this problem? And how to resolve it?

Thanks a lot ahead.

Reboot ESXi servers manually (one by one). The resolve function should do that but sometimes can't.

Common reasons are that a host cannot go into maintenance mode by itself due to something being stuck. Like a cd-rom mounted in a VM doing the funky chicken or a VM does not want to vMotion away for some reason (and so DRS cannot either).

Is any error message you found from the below log.

/var/log/esxupdate.log

Check if vSphere Update Manager (VUM) service is running in your vCenter.

If not , turn on the service & deploy it.

VIB files didn't load property on that particular host. Check see if the host has any VIBs loaded. If none are loaded, reload ESXi on that host.

This could also very well be the same issue that I encountered, in which the new VIBs were too big and the ESXi bootbank was full. I had to manually delete a VIB (in my case the HP-AMS software) to free up some space. See the following link for more details about the logs and errors that you should check: "The pending transaction requires xxx MB free space" error when installing VIBs (2144200) | VMware K...

I have the same problem with NSX 6.2.7 and vSphere 6.5d, hosts can finish Host Installation. Resolve, reboots, don't work. esxcli software vib list | grep esx shows no NSX related VIBs. VCenter Appliance is 6.5d. Thoughts?

PS. NSX 6.2.7 is the latest release and build# for NSX, even though the release 6.3.1 is an earlier build per downloads at vmware.com

If you don’t see any VIB’s, reload ESXI software.

When you say, reload ESXi software, do you mean reinstall ESXi host from scratch? I've got four branch new ESXi 6.5d and VCenter 6.5d and can't get any of the host installs to complete. Thoughts?

Thanks

Yes. The same thing happened to me two weeks ago at a customer site. Basically, if you check and don’t see any VIB’s loaded on the host, chances are that you may have a bad image loaded initially.

The following command should provide you a print out: “esxcli software profile get”. Execute this command on the host having problems getting prepared. Compare and do the same command on the other hosts within the cluster. If you don’t get a print out reload esxi.

I found my solution. I had assumed 6.2.7 was the latest build since its build number was later than 6.3.1 - thinking vmware had problems w/ their version number. ,In reality, 6.2.7 was a patch for 6.2.x branch of NSX, and 6.3.1 is first version that runs w/ ESXi 6.5x. Once I used 6.3.1, host installation completed.

Thanks
