Please get rid of unnecessary modal dialogs (like Defragmenting Disk etc.) --- PLEASE VOTE

It's very annoying that VMware Workstation keeps me from accessing and working in one VM while I'm administering another VM.

These modal dialogs, like Virtual Machine Settings, Virtual Machine Settings > Defragmenting Disk, Virtual Machine Settings > Compacting Disk, Snapshot Manager, Snapshot Manager > Cleaning Up Disk Files should not block the whole Workstation window.

Instead, they should only block the corresponding VM.

Please, VMware, with the next release (v13), get rid of these modal dialog boxes and alter them so they, for example, replace the corresponding VM's console display when opened. Then they'll only block the corresponding VM but not all the others.

Current situation:

Hi,

Agreed, that's pretty much how it works on Fusion

Although we don't have a defragment there, but committing snapshots or shrinking does not block access to other VMs.

edit: I figured to try something. I started a defragment process on a vm and then tried to start the GUI another time. While that works, it then said "VM in use, do you want to take ownership". So I click "Yes" and it still said I could not because another application has it open. Maybe that's because it is in my favorites list, but as it wasn't running it should never have been "open" in my opinion.

YES!  YES! A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!

This is one of the mosy annoying behavioral glitches / poor design decision EVER!

Deleting a snapshot for one virtual machine for example, can easily take 15-20 minutes, during which time you are unable to access any of your other virtual machines which are still running! That's nuts!

I'm new to this forum. How do I UP VOTE the original post?

I'd like to add one more screenshot ...

This is my GUI suggestion for cloning a VM:

Workstation+Snapshot+Manager+Cloning.png

When you hit the clone button and confirm the cloning dialog, the Snapshot Details section should then hide and a Cloning Details section should be displayed instead.

As you may read from the progress bar label, the current state of the VM is currently cloned.

If an existing snapshot were to be cloned, the label should read the snapshot name: "Cloning MySnapShopName ..."

Moreover, the target directory is supposed to be displayed below the progress bar.
