Upgrading ESXi 5.1 to 5.5 with iSCSI attached SAN

Hello,

I am preparing for an upgrade of out ESXi hosts and I was reading the best practices for the upgrade from 5.1 to 5.5 and noticed that one of the BPs is "If a SAN is connected to the host, detach the fibre before continuing with the upgrade or migration. Do not disable HBA cards in the BIOS." . This has made me question if they mean specifically a SAN attached via fibre channel or do they mean all SAN connections even if it is iSCSI?

Thanks,

B.Z.

You're using independent hardware iSCSI adapter or software iSCSI adapter? If using independent hardware iSCSI adapter, that recommendation of disconnect the host from SAN will apply too, the main reason is to avoid install the ESXi onto one of LUNs with virtual machines.
