Hi,
currently I am not able to redirect documents at location "C:\Users\%username%\Documents" but I can redirect documents folder which is pointing under "Quick access"
note: if user is saving the documents my going through this path "C:\Users\%username%\Documents" they will not redirect to NFS
User Environment Tab -> Folder Redirection -> Create Folder Redirection setting.
For an example, see: http://www.vclouds.nl/vmware-launched-uem-9/
My case is different, we can navigate documents in two way
1) Quick access-> documents [I don't have any problem in redirecting documents here]
2) Navigating to this path "C:\Users\%username%\Documents" and saving documents, these documents are not redirecting to my share (help me on second point)
Correct, that local folder in C:\Users\%username%\Documents still exist if you enable folder redirection.
This will be solved in UEM 9.2, which is scheduled for a Q2 release.
User can use the regular shortcuts to browse to their documents for now and should ignore the folder on the C:\ drive.
BTW, this is also described in the release notes:
Which operating system is installed on your users?
HI Liorshe,
I am using windows 10, we fixed this issue with the help of windows folder redirection
Thanks.
Hi Vkmr,
So you are not using Uem Folder redirection?
You are using Microsoft GPO folder redirection?
Thanks
I tried using UEM folder redirection instead of GPO, and ended up deciding to stick with GPO. UEM folder redirection doesn't point the explorer.exe favorites navigation pane to the network share locations, so users were inadvertently storing files locally and on the network share. GPO folder redirection points the favorites locations in explorer.exe correctly.
We were using Windows GPO for Folder Redirection with Persona and recently migrated to UEM 9.1 and are now using UEM Folder Redirection. Users Desktop Folder under Favorites and Documents Folder under Libraries in Windows Explorer are correctly redirected with UEM Folder Redirection. The local Desktop and Documents folder do exists locally on the VM but users never manually go to that path and save their files. So, it's working for us.
Loc7.
Yes, In your case it is good because users are not going to c:\username.....\documents
it is good for you, but if we use windows GPO we will never loss user data
however our UEM team is working on this issue to fix it in UEM 9.2 version
Thanks.
You are right liorshe, Initially I used UEM 9.1 for folder redirection and later we adopted windows GPO redirection
Hi Vkmr,
I solved the problem, at least for me 🙂
You need to add a five REG KEYS in the base image or add with UEM to users.
Go to -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Add this reg keys as "expandable string variable" -
Downloads - {374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B} -
Desktop - {754AC886-DF64-4CBA-86B5-F7FBF4FBCEF5}
Documents - {F42EE2D3-909F-4907-8871-4C22FC0BF756}
Pictures - {0DDD015D-B06C-45D5-8C4C-F59713854639}
Music - {A0C69A99-21C8-4671-8703-7934162FCF1D}
Videos - {35286A68-3C57-41A1-BBB1-0EAE73D76C95}
Downloads- {7D83EE9B-2244-4E70-B1F5-5393042AF1E4}
in the value data insert the path of your folder redirection and the name of folder example-
\\servername\folderredirecion\%username%\file://servername/folderDesktop
If you follow the steps correctly you will finally see one folder (not duplicates folder) in "User Files" that points to yours folder redirect path.
if you do this in your base image after you finish you need to do recompose.
I made these changes In one user , I export the reg key and add them to Uem And finally applied them to all users who work with Windows 10.
Hope I helped.
Good luck .
After this You can go back to work with the uem folder redirection.
if you have a problem of duplicate folder in "user files"
Add this Reg Key to all user are used Uem Folder redirection-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\NonEnum]
"{DFFACDC5-679F-4156-8947-C5C76BC0B67F}"=dword:00000001
