Seems there are some issues with the latest VMware Tools, try installing an older copy.

Yes, that's from a few versions ago. You're welcome to try a newer version.

I just know there are no complaints about the version that was bundled with 12.5.2

Don't forget to turn off automatic VMware Tools update or it will try to update to 12.5.5 immediately after you installed the tools from 12.5.2.
