Mouse alignment issue with Excel for Windows in VMWare Fusion 8.5.4

Hello - hoping someone can assist with this issue.

I'm having issues with the alignment of my mouse cursor in Excel for Windows. It seems to be an offset issue within the worksheet, where my cursor must be visually above and to the left of the objects / edges I wish to select.

I'm using the latest version of VMWare Fusion (8.5.4). I on Windows 10, Excel 1702 (build 7870.2020). I've uninstalled Office, VMware tools, then re-installed both (VMware tools first, then MS Office).

I'm using a late 2016 MacBook Pro, 13 inch on MacOS Sierra (current version). I've been using VMware Fusion & Excel for Windows for a couple of years now without having this issue before. Before late 2016 when this issue occurred, I was using a 17 inch MacBook Pro (non-retina) - I updated to the 13-inch and the problem occurred.  I do not have these alignment issues with Excel for Mac (current build).

Hi prob142,

Welcome to Fusion Community!

We want to confirm some settings with you to analyse your problem.

1. Did the problem persist when you disable full resolution for Retina support from Display Settings?

2. Did you ever changed the resolution for your host machine?  Would you please inform which resolution are you using in your Macbook Pro 2016?

Thanks & Regards,

-Rick

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the follow-up. So, I just tried disabling full resolution for Retina and that resolved the issue. However, now the text / lives in windows is a little fuzzy / less sharp or focused which is less than ideal but better than misalignment. Don't suppose there is a fix for this?

My MBP 2016 13 inch display is set to a scaled resolution of "more space" which looks like 1680 X 1050 - but vmware / windows 10 sees it at twice that - 3360 X 2100.

Thanks for the assist!

Rob

Hi prob142,

Good to hear that.

Yes, if you disable full resolution for Retina display option you will lose 'pixel to pixel' match inside virtual machine so it looks less sharp.

Besides, I'm wondering what about if you use 'Default for display' in your Macbook pro 2016 host machine and enable Retina support for virtual machine? Does it help?

The resolution get doubled in virtual machine is intended behaviour due to Retina support.

Regards,

-Rick
