This feature never was available through the GUI.
I am not absolutely sure but as far as I know it is defunct since Workstation 7 !!!
Only VMware product that still allows shared disks is ESXi.

Yes,I ever tried this operation.

And I also found the disk on two machine.

But while I used it to build a cluster, the machine would auto suspend.

And the log shows that can not find the .vmdk of the disk.

So I wonder was there any official operation can do that.

Not by editing the vmx file.

Officially it is not supported.

If you have issues with this feature and you would like to setup a cluster with shared storage, I suggest you look into alternatives, such as FreeNas for NFS/iSCSI shared storage.

Cheers,

Leonid

Now I can sure the way to edit the vmx file has some problems.

I used another virtual software to do the same thing, and it works.

Thank you for your help very much.

in  first  VM's put in vmx file

disk.locking = "FALSE"

scsi0:1.deviceType = "disk"

scsi0:1.fileName = "SharedDisk1.vmdk"

scsi0:1.mode = "independent-persistent"

scsi0:1.present = "TRUE"

scsi0:1.redo = ""

scsi0:1.sharing="multi-writer"

scsi0:1.writeThrough = "TRUE"

in second vm put

the same but point the disk file to the first vm disk file location
