When I build a brand new Windows 2016 image (vCenter 6 and ESXi 5.5) the guest time is off by several hours (for example it shows 10 PM when the actual time is 2 PM). The first thing I do is install the VMware tools and reboot and even though the sync time with host option is checked in the VM configuration in vCenter, it never syncs time. I read somewhere that the time sync tool will never set time backwards...not sure if that is true anymore. So assuming the sync tool cannot correct this on its own, I am wondering where this initial time came from in the first place. I am using EFI instead of BIOS, but I see nothing in the EFI settings at boot up to configure time there. I there a place in vCenter or the client configuration that I can set the time correctly up front before even installing the base OS? I realize I can change the time in the OS later, but I am just wondering if there is a way to get the time set correctly to begin with. Where is this 8 hour difference coming from?
Thanks
