I have an issue where I cannot access subfolders of Mirrored Folders on my Windows 10 VM. I do not have the same problem with a Windows 7 VM. The machine basically ignores, without giving any indication that it even tried, any request to access a subfolder inside my Mirrored Folders from my Mac system, if accessed in the "normal" way. Double-clicking on them does nothing, doesn't even generate the spinning shiny circle cursor. It doesn't matter whether I'm just trying to access the folder from the desktop or through a File Explorer window. I can't even type in the address in the address bar. Or rather, I can type it, but it doesn't open it.
The only way I can access those folders is to make sure that I start by accessing the "Z:" drive (\\vmware-host\). If I go that route, so the address I'm trying to access is \\vmware-host\Shared Folders\Desktop\subfolder, it works. But if I simply try to double click on a folder on the desktop, or go to Quick access > Desktop, then try to open a subfolder, literally nothing happens.
System info:
Had the same problem and asked VMware support. They were extremely helpful and provided this solution:
Use regedit to make the this registry key look as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order
Name: ProviderOrder
Type: REG_SZ
Data: vmhgfs,RDPNP, LanmanWorkstation,webclient
Then reboot Windows and everything should work again.
Apparently one of the recent Microsoft Windows updates threw out "vmhgfs" from that registry key which stopped VMware's concept of folder redirections to work.
Also you can try to do a clean uninstall of the vmware tools, restart and then install them again. That worked for me when i upgraded to win10
Thanks, this fixed the problem for me too!
But the fact that this is the sorta thing you have to deal with on windows to do the most elementary shit is just infuriating...
