In our lab, Is there a way/setting to enable cut and paste like we used to be able to do with the thick client?
The old method was to make changes on the ESX hosts per VMware KB: Clipboard Copy and Paste does not work in vSphere Client 4.1 and later ....
isolation.tools.copy.disable FALSE
isolation.tools.paste.disable FALSE
What about the web client????
Thanks
Hi COS,
What version of vSphere are you on? It sounds like you're trying to copy/paste from a VM's console view onto your local machine. If I'm understanding wrong please correct me.
I'm not certain but you could try:
1) The standalone VM Remote Console (VMRC) tool, which you install on a Windows or Mac machine. This should have copy/paste from a VM in it: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VMRC70&productId=353
2) Is VM tools installed on your VM? VM tools may be required to make copy/paste work.
I have 2 lab environments. One is 6.0 and the other is 5.5 U2.
Is this even possible????
Hi COS,
I'm not sure what you mean by "Is this even possible". If you're on 5.5U2b (or later), then the standalone VMRC should work, and I think should solve your copy-paste trouble.
Anyone solve this?
This makes the web client somewhat useless if you want to cut/paste anything.
The setting that works for the Think client do NOT work in the web client...
and when the Thick client is no longer working.....
This works without a problem in VirtualBox. Does not require any settings...
Update: 2 years later and it's still broken.
I also have the same issue.
We switched from the Think client to the web client, and we can no longer copy and paste between the VM and my workstation.:smileyangry:
