There is a .snapshot directory under the root folder of my vm that is >200G

Hello,

I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

I created a vm machine and it started to run out of space even though it wasn't used much.

After digging around I found /.snapshot folder that kept growing in size.

I did not set or schedule any snapshots on this vm and was wondering how do I cancel this snapshot taking process?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Are you using NetApp storage? See that another thread: .snapshot folders

Hi Richardson,

Thanks for your reply.  I asked the storage people and this is the response that I got:

"not a netapp, its on a dell box"

Anything else that it could be?

Thanks,

Bella

Hi,

Try to create a snapshot manually and after that do DELETE ALL to clear all the snapshot in a chain and then check if snapshot is getting created or not?

Thanks n Regards

After digging around some more I discovered that OpenSuSE installs a tool called “snapper” which manages snapshots. I disabled it and expect these snapshots to step being created and taking up the entire hard drive.

Thank you both for your input.
