vSphere Client Console, VM guest only show in 1/4 of the console window

Hi all,

We have multiple hosts in vCenter, running different versions of ESXi, 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0, as such I have multiple vSphere clients installed on Windows 10 laptop.

When I attempt to connect to a Console of a VM guest, I see a really odd 1/4 screen view. The easiest way to explain this is with a picture. It doesn't matter if the guest is Windows, or a Linux console, the issue is the same. Any ideas?

I should also say, it makes no odds if the client is Windowed (as above) or Full Screen.

Interestingly, all is OK when I dock the laptop with 2 x 1920 x1200 resolution (24") screens with 100% text sizing. The laptop screen itself is 2560 x 1440 (14") and use 200% text sizing.

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem and i remark what is since i had installed the windows update anniversary. i have 3 computers, 2 surface pro 4 windows 10 without aniversary update  and 1 desktop windows 10 with aniversary update. I had installed vsphere client on 3, on surface pro 4 no problem on desktop the problem appear. when i update one of the two surface pro 4 with aniversary update the problem appear too.

if i don't mess the vsphere client use wmrc witch is locate in c:\%programfilex86folder%\commonfile\vmware\vmware remote console plug-in 5.5\internet\vmware-vmrc.exe i think is necessary to upgrade this version. For now if you download remote client console 9.0 you be able to view correctly the guest.

I have the very same issue on my Surface Pro 4.

vSphere client is incompatible with Windows 10 High DPI scaling (and therefore Windows 8/8.1 more than likely).

It works perfectly if you turn off Scaling in the display options.

This is an issue vmware will have to address in a future version update.

My monitor is WQHD, but I was able to work around the issue when using the VMRC via command line.

I'm having the same 1/4 screen issue on my new Surface Book with a 3000x2000 display. I have not found a solution as of yet.

You can add me to the list of victims too, I have VSphere Client version 6.0.0, build "2502222", and VMWare ESXi version 6.0.0 too, this one having build number 2494585.

My client window is a Windows 7 one, as I don't see the taskbar this is blocking the usage of my virtual machine.

As far as "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VMware\VMware Remote Console Plug-in 5.5\Internet Explorer\vmware-vmrc.exe" is concerned, its version is 9.0.0.34615

Best regards

Dominique

Meanwhile I've found a solution for this issue: I searched for the VSphere client shortcut, which I found in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\VMware", it's called "VMware vSphere Client".

In the properties, "Compatibility" tab, I've checked "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".

This solved the issue.

Good luck.
