Adminission Control Policy

Hi in the HA settings

under Adminission Control Policy, i can see two settings

1. Host failure cluster tolerates

2. Percentage of resources..

Which of the setting is recommended by vmware. I just wanna know vmware recommendations on this.

My understanding is that you choose this based off of the composition of the cluster.  There isn't a blanket recommendation from VMware, because customers have different requirements.

Choosing an Admission Control Policy:  vSphere Documentation Center

If your environment is very homogeneous (lucky you), then specify how many hosts you can tolerate losing.

If your environment is very heterogeneous, then you will likely have to either reserve certain hosts for failover or hand-calculate the percentage of resources you want to reserve.

I've had to disable admission control, due to some very large VMs that require memory reservations.  This increased the size of a reservation slot, and made it so I couldn't power on anything.

I recall reading that for 6.0 the preferred (if possible) method is to use a percentage. However this is not set in stone and will rely entirely on your environment.
