mouse pointer is offset up and to the left about 1/4 inch

i am on an imac running 10.11.6 running fusion 8.1.0 and i have a windows 7 VM.

the mouse pointer displayed in the VM is a bit off from the point it activates when pressed.

when i release the mouse the pointer jumps to the correct location but with i reactivate it

it again has the offset.

the image with the small mouse pointer is the OSX pointer, the correct position. the large

pointer is win7s. the jump is the issue and not due to movement of the mouse.

i have looked in the fusion discussions but could not find a reference to an issue like this.

what can i do so that the mouse activation point corresponds to when the mouse is pointing.

thank you,

jeff

I'm replying in the hopes that someone will take a look at this issue.  I'm running OSX 10.10.5 and Fusion 8.5.5.  I see the problem on both 32 and 64 bit Win7 VMs.  When resizing a window, if I want to move a side, the pointer has to be 1/4" away from the window.  Specifically, I move the pointer toward the edge of the window.  When it touches the edge the pointer jumps to the left about a 1/4" regardless of which side.  When I press the mouse, the pointer snaps to the edge of the window and I can resize.  Mouse up and the pointer jumps left.  Top and bottom behavior is similar, except jump direction is toward the top of the screen.  Corner behavior is similar, except jump is up and left.  The problem also appears in some graphical applications that involve moving icons around on a drawing area (ModelCenter for example).  The ModelCenter analysis view is essentially unusable.  It does not seem to appear with Simulink models or MagicDraw models which also have a "drawing area".  In all cases, the behavior of changing a window size is the same.  I tried re-installing the Tools and also updated to Fusion 8.5.6.  No change in behavior.

I found another thread and the solution.  VMWare Fusion -> Preferences -> General.  For "Gaming:" select the option "Always optimize the mouse for games".

Hi fusionNewbe,

Welcome to the community.

Would you please inform the screen resolution of your virtual machine when the cursor offset happened? From the screenshot the text is not sharp as expected, the cursor offset may occur when the screen resolution is not set properly, so please change resolution in your VM and see if it helps.

-Rick

Hi jdzielski,

Did that solution solve your problem?

I also have this exact problem when using an Ubuntu guest in Fusion Pro 8, when using the option "Use full resolution for Retina display".

Selecting that gaming mouse setting does solve it for me too.

But unfortunately this makes the mouse move very slowly (changing the mouse speed setting in the guest doesn't help) and captures the mouse so that I can't freely move it in and out of the guest window.

I noticed the pointer changed chape and became precise and smaller every time I selected something as if the real pointer was only visible when something was selected.

I enabled mouse pointer trails and that solved it for me. Pointer became precise again but slower.

Didn't have it on Windows 8.

I'm having the same issue, and it turned out the reason to be that the dual screens i'm using support HDR and HDR is enabled in the display settings. Once that option is unchecked, mouse goes back to normal in Fusion guests.
