But instead of I see the User SID!

See screenshot.

Can anybody help me?

Kind regards,

It sounds as if you have problems doing ldap resolutions from the VMware Views server. Possibly try check the ldap ports are open

Hi Gregg,

that sounds interesting - now I unassigned a user from the desktop, then I assigned the same user to the desktop.

And now the user name is shown. But the firewall is still disabled.

Regards,

Andre

I have the same problem. If I click the SID and then the button "Update general user information..." and go back, the true name is shown. Very strange, but as it is a one time thing to do per desktop for me using persistent desktops, I can live with it. But it sure looks like a bug?

We are having this exact same issue in View 4.6 with Windows 7 desktops, its random and usually only affects users at initial sign on.  I have actually seen this affect the user as well, if the user has a "SID" displayed in the console instead of the domain\username, when the user tries to login to his or her desktop they often will get a "local" login prompt and they must select "other user" in order to sign in.

If anyone has any ideas on this I would welcome the help, its actually starting to affect the user experience for new users as pass-though from the VMware View Client doesn't work correctly if the user's username is a SID in the admin console.

Thanks!

Yes, any resolve/insight on this issue?

This would happen rarely in our View environment, usually with no impact to the end users and the names would self populate between a few minutes to a few hours...maybe by the next day at the most.

For the first time today, this issue prevented a user from logging in (said no desktop available). Clicking on the SID and using the 'Update General User Information...' button as suggested earlier did fix the issue and the user could log in.

Would like to know the cause and prevention of this in the first place.

Thanks!

Clicking "'Update General User Information" is a temporary work around, I would really like to know what is going on here.  Has anyone else seen this issue?  I have heard it could be a slow DC causing the issue, but I don't see that being the case in our environment.

The behavior seems to persist in View 5.

There's a KB on this: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102972...

However, I can practically guarantee that in my case the DC was not "busy replicating" - I am testing View in a lab environment, with only one DC, which has nothing else to do other than authenticating the View users Smiley Happy

I have similar issue in Horizon view 7.0.2 but the vmvare KB is no longer available. In my case sometimes I get username show and sometimes SID, something like 50:50 chance of either.

Any hint on what to look for ?

We had this problem also and I believe we fixed the issue by going to the Machines section then clicking on the user then select Update General User Information and it solved the issue.
