Can't import VM

I'm trying to import a VM (ova file) but haven't had any success.  When I try to run the VM, the system doesn't see the HD, and I get a long string of numbers with a rotating vertical line at the beginning (I've seen this before, specifically when an SSD went south on me). Does anyone have any idea why a duly exported VM won't work in this way?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to VMware Fusion community.

Could you please provide more detailed info of your issue? E.g. the screenshot of the error message.

It is better if your have the ovftool.log in ~/Library/Logs/VMware Fusion and attach it.

Besides, what's the size of your imported disk? And how did you export the VM, by VirtualBox or other products from VMware?

Thanks a lot.

Hello. I'm attaching two screenshots that hopefully tell the story.  The 256 GB indication is the size of the HD on the Mac. I exported the VM from Fusion on another computer. I think that the hard disk is not being exported properly.

Am also attaching the log file.

The VM was created from a Bootcamp partition, if that helps.

Tnx.

The size of the HD on the Mac is 256. I don't know where the 223 figure comes from...

Hi,

PMJI,

You really don't need to use the ova format for that, you can just copy the whole VM bundle..

The use of the ova format becomes more interesting when you want to move to another virtualisation platform.

What I would do in your case is:

- shut down VM on the source Fusion host.

- right click the bundle and compress the VM

- copy the compressed bundle to the new host

- uncompress

- point Fusion to the VM using menu -> file -> open

- start

The compress/uncompress step can be skipped if wanted as it is not a required step.
