Hey there !
Im very new to VMware player and setting up networks. I tried several times to setup a bridge for Kali Linux Vm. But it doesnt seems to work :
As you can see it isnt connected ... I also havent filled anything in the options of wired connections yet, everything is completly empty ( Security/Identy/ipv4/ipv6 are emtpy) :
I watched some tutorials and read some threads about that problem. SO i configured KaliLunux Vm like that :
I also changed some stuff in the NetworkingEditor :
And atleast heres a picture of my networkcard :
Does anyone of you guys know why it isnt working and how to solve it ?
Hi,
Looks like you don't have an active DHCP server in your network handing out IP addresses.
Try switching to NAT instead.

Hey wila ! Thanks for your quick answer !
Our network is just static. I already tried to use NAT. But the problem is that when using NAT as network mode, Kali Linux cant see any devices in lan. And those computers connected to lan cant see the KaliLinux Vm.
I also tried to config the network. But when i input the Gateway Adress, at this moment kali linux always closes the network manager. When i try to ping the gateway it also says its unreachable. On my Host pc i can ping it without iusses...
Any other ideas ?
Thanks for your help
Hi,
The "wired connection 1" screenshot of yours has selected DHCP and with no DHCP server present the fields underneath will stay empty.
So you would have to change that to static and fill in some IP details that work for your network.

Thanks again for your fast answer ^^^
I already did that. I did it like so :
Adress : 192.168.0.166
Netmask : 255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.0.1
Dns-Server : 192.168.0.1
But everytime i select the Gateway the Network Manager window instantly closes without an error message ... Thats very strange. Is this a common bug ? When i try to ping the gateway it says unreachable network.
Why does this happen and how to solve this ?
Hi,
Umm.. a bug in network manager? Yeah it might be, I tend to evade that stuff. It is not needed on a server and not a big fan of setting this in a GUI myself.
Nowadays I believe the best way to set this is via the ip command (sorry lost track a bit and what linux version does what and how as the distributions keeps on messing with the how-to do this best and I do not currently have Kali installed to verify)
