Poor performance of ESXi6.5 NVMe controller for VMDK

Hello,

The new virtual nvme controller in ESXi6.5 is not performing any better than the pvscsi controller in terms of IOPS. I could see only 100K IOPS (4K Random Read) with whole NVMe drive(datastore) as one VMDK connected to a single nvme controller. Just replacing the controller with pvscsi, IOPS increased to about 220K. I am not sure if there are other benefits of new nvme controller, but IOPS are let down (CPU maxed out for 100K IOPS, actual nvme disk spec is 1000K IOPS 4K RR on standalone OS).

I don't see anything related to NVMe controller in "What’s New in VMware vSphere 6.5". Anyone tested/observed any performance numbers with the vNVMe yet?

Thanks
