.vmx is not a valid config file

Suddenly, hard drive is full and the VM is no longer working.  Says ourfile.vmx is not a valid configuration file although it was working fine.  I think the .vmx file must be corrupt and has filled up my hard drive but I have no idea what to do or how to fix it.  I'm using VM player 5.0.2.  Can anyone help me?

Welcome to the Community,

in such cases it often happens that files get overwritten, and it looks like this was the case with your .vmx file. What you may try is follow HowTo: Recreating a .vmx from the vmware.log file, and see whether this solves the issue. In any case I strongly recommend that you backup the VM's folder/files prior to start modifying files!

If you are unsure, please run dir *.* /oen in the VM's folder and paste the output to a reply post. Also attach the VM's current .vmx file.
