in such cases it often happens that files get overwritten, and it looks like this was the case with your .vmx file. What you may try is follow HowTo: Recreating a .vmx from the vmware.log file, and see whether this solves the issue. In any case I strongly recommend that you backup the VM's folder/files prior to start modifying files!
If you are unsure, please run dir *.* /oen in the VM's folder and paste the output to a reply post. Also attach the VM's current .vmx file.
