How to manually change master role host to slave?

Hello everyone,

I need a little support. I have vSphere HA cluster with two nodes. vSphere automaticly choose one esx node as master, is it possible to manually change master role to slave and made master another node?

right click on your master host, and go for 'Reconfigure host for vSphere HA' (menu lable might be slightly different)

wait for a minute or two and see.

Alternatively, enter master host in Maintenance mode and it will trigger re-election. But this might not work depending upon your admission control policy.

Why do you want to do this by the way?

Thank you for reply and help. I just clicked on "reconfigure.." and after couple minutes state was change from master to slave after reelection. Strange that vmware do not add this option in settings.

Why I would like to this? Because each node is in separate server rooms and one server room had better independent power and better infrastructure, so I would like to have master node here. I know that this is strange thinking but I fell better with this Smiley Happy

ok, got your point.

I guess, the option to change master node is not there in menu because it's not needed since architecture of HA is written in such a way that it can detect and act on failures of master or slave host in your cluster. And amount of time it takes to detect and initiate failover remains nearly same in both the cases.

Actually you can set "fdm.nodeGoodness" to a high value, which means that that node will win the election most likely. Personally I am not a fan of making changes like these, but if you really want, you can. https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=20332...
