8.5 Keeps crashing

About every 30 minutes to an hour it crashes. Its good that it only takes two seconds to reload but man is it annoying. Please fix it I only had a crash once a week maybe with the previous version.

Sure no problem at all. Mine is just from the latest update like 2 weeks ago so I think they are unrelated problems. I would start a new tread for your problem though. You shouldn't have to wait a year to get a bug fixed. Thats not right!

Indeed, this is annoying.

However, it is difficult to determine what causes this. Might be Apple's Software, might be VMWare. I've done a lot of research into this (console logs, etc, even Apple Support Software unavailable to the public) and it really seems it is VMWare, perhaps in conclusion with some weird Power Nap thingy.

Kind of scary, when your notebook in the backpack starts to fry itself...

Mine is also crashing. Upgraded to Fusion 8.5 and macOS Sierra. Crashes daily.

Just to make it perfectly clear.

On Mac it is 100 percent caused by Unity, on Linux I do not know.

I switched running full Windowed mode using all screens and I have not had a single crash since then. If I switch to unity it will crash within 30 sek - 5 min.

So Yes on Mac it is a Unity problem.

A better question would be - are they doing something about it ?

I just upgraded to OS Sierra and then installed Fusion 8.5.  My issue IS directly related to Unity mode.  Every 30 minutes, it would crash.  Since I took it out of Unity mode, it has been stable (over 24 hrs.).  Perhaps there are multiple issues if others crash unrelated to Unity.   I have an open case.

I am having the same issue after upgrading to 8.5. Works fine in single window mode, crashes constantly in unity mode.

Running Fusion 8.5 on Mac with El Capitan 10.11.6, VM is Win 7 Pro SP1

Hopefully this can get resolved quickly as I really like using Unity!!!

I suffer from constant crashes (mostly) at startup since version 8.1.1 (iMac 27" late 2013, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 Beta, VMs: Win10 64bit & 32bit, Ubuntu Mate)

On 8.5 the problem still persists.

Disabling the 3D support seems to solve the problem (as temporary solution).

Cannot submit the Fusion error log because of its size (75 MB).

Best,

Jan

Same here - constant crashing under AutoCAD 2013 in Unity mode. I'm going to have to back-rev to 8.1.1 this is completely unusable.

nothing to do with unity. i don't use it (i'm a single window man) and i've had VM's completely trashed and made un-bootable. infact i've just spent three days rebuilding a windows dev machine to find it no longer boots. this is extremely painful. no wonder they stopped billing for upgrades...

No disrespect Wacky but you are 100 percent wrong.

Might be other problems as well and your problem is related to something else but the problem in this thread is 100 percent unity related.

Been running without Unity a few weeks without a single crash.

I'm so suprised they are not doing anything about this serious problem

I specifically:

1. only crash in Unity

2. only crash in AutoCAD

3. Usually only crash when I am doing a copy, move, either with object snap on, sometimes not.

These are the only three factors that have given me any problem in 8.5

Edit: Reverting back to 8.1.1 completely fixed the issue for me

This is happening to me too. Unity mode has proven to be unusable for awhile now. Currently I'm on macOS Sierra, but Unity has been crashing VMWare Fusion since at least macOS Yosemite.

There's always a pattern at the beginning too. Whenever I switch to Unity mode, it will crash the first time I hit Ctrl-C to copy something. 100% of the time, it will crash on the first Ctrl-C I attempt. Once I re-open VMWare, Ctrl-C will work fine. Then VMWare Fusion (unity mode) works for about 45 minutes or an hour, then Fusion will randomly crash again.

Like someone in this thread stated, it only takes a few seconds to restart. But come on...this is no way to work.

This bug, along with the mouse scrolling issue that's plagued Unity mode for awhile (Issues with scrolling in Fusion VMs after installing Sierra) are infuriating and make me want to just abandoned VMWare altogether. You guys got to get these fixed or I'll need to look at other virtualization options. I can't work like this.

It would be nice to get some feedback from VMWare support about this. Not a single response from one of the team since the first report over a month ago.

I'm getting regular crashes too, usually multiple times at startup. Windows 10 Enterprise on macOS Sierra 10.12.1, Fusion 8.5.

I'm only using single window mode.

Same thing happening with me (Fusion 8.5 and Sierra 10.12.1) but I'm definitely not using Unity with any of my VMs. So far this has happened with several VMs including Windows XP & 10, Ubuntu Linux 16.04 (including Linux Live / Installation .iso image files) and Mac El Capitan.

I went back to El Capitan and installed 8.5, and during 10 days use (using several times a day) 8.5 never crashed once. Back to Sierra after the 10.12.1 update and it's randomly crashing again at VM startups.

I'm running 8.5 on El Capitan and works fine, even with heavy loads.

I logged a case with vmware support, uploaded some logs, and after looking at them they confirmed it's a known issue with a fix on the way. No ETA though.

-Informed that with initial analysis the issue reported is known to VMware and we are currently working on it.

@Mikero: Would your team need more logs? I can provide log(s) if more is needed. This issue is recurrent regardless of Fusion settings, fullscreen/unity/windowed, or guest OS. Thanks.
