Could not get vmci driver version: The handle is invalid. You have an incorrect version of driver 'vmci.sys'. Try reinstalling VMware Workstation. Module 'DevicePowerOn' power on failed. Failed to start the virtual machine.

Hi This is the error message I get when I try to run VM.

Help Thanks Dave.

A quick and dirty workaround would be to set

vmci0.present = "false"

in the vmx-file.
Without details thats all we can say.

I had this same problem after installing 12.5, finding that it had a serious bug with USB support, uninstalling 12.5 (with difficulty) and reinstalling 12.1.

Telephone support suggested that I uninstall 12.1, do the steps in KB article 1308 and reinstall.   I did this.   it DID NOT  solve the problem.

I finally had to restore a backup of my C drive to revert successfully to 12.1.   I am, needless to say, not happy with VMware or its technical support organization.

Can you try this workaround in Workstation 12.5 release notes?

Some driver files are not deleted after uninstalling VMware Workstation from a Windows host operating system

After VMware Workstation is uninstalled, the following driver-related files remain on the Windows host operating system:
In C:\Windows\System32\drivers:
hcmon.sys
vmci.sys
vmx86.sys
vmkbd.sys in case Enhanced Keyboard Driver was installed.
In C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\vmci\device:
vmciver.dll

Workaround: Navigate to  C:\Windows\System32\drivers and delete hcmon.sys, vmci.sys, vmx86.sys, and vmkbd.sys. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\vmci\device and delete vmciver.dll.

Several of these DLL's were locked and undeletable.

This was a spot on fix for me. It did take me a while to locate the file. I found it in:

C:Users>[user]>Document>virtualmachines>[virtual machine.vmx]

Thanks

One solution that worked for us was to go to Programs and Features in Control Panel, click VMware Workstation, click Change above, then run a repair. Afterwards, the drivers were correctly installed and worked afterwards.

Hi Guys ,

There is a solution .

Goto Virtual Machines folder

goto.vmx file ...open via notepad

find vmci option and edit it from TRUE to FALSE

This should fix the issue
