Desperately need OS X Snow Leopard Server

I am in major need of Snow Leopard Server. I have a retail copy of Client 10.6.8, which does me no good given it cannot be virtualized. Apple says that they do NOT still carry it, and had no suggestions of where to look. Does anyone know of a place I can still purchase it or download it? Thanks!

Hey Ulli,

I tried several months ago here in Netherlands and they told me that I could not buy it any more and suggested me to try Belgium.

Uh.. the problem with that is that you need an address in Belgium as they do not send it any where else.

Same with your German link, I just tried to order there and they required a German delivery address...

Btw, your link seems to be just Snow Leopard client/desktop version, not Snow Leopard Server?

TS if you are in the US, call them, 1-800-MY-APPLE, part number MC588Z/A, there's a fair chance you can still get it there.

I called Apple in the US this morning, and the Apple salesperson said that Snow Leopard Server is no longer available. I checked again this afternoon and confirmed it. The second salesperson did a very thorough search, and I am convinced that he is correct. Apple discontinued sales of Snow Leopard Server sometime after February 2016, which was the last time I checked. Pricing was $20.

Only the "client" version is available, which will not run under VMware Fusion.

You can try eBay, but I predict that prices will go way up once people learn that Apple is not selling Snow Leopard Server anymore.

I’ve talked to several people from Apple that could not help me...I talked to Sales, AppleCare, and Apple Developer support.

I already have a license for Snow Leopard Server, so all I need is the .DMG installation file, so I can download it, install it as a VM, and then enter my own license cods. There has be some source for this file, right?

The license only comes with media, so that's a bit odd, but your best bet is eBay.

Just make sure it's not one that was bundled with a machine, and is a later release.

I just checked, and Snow Leopard Server IS AVAILABLE from Apple in the US as of this writing (18 October 2016).

You cannot buy it in stores. It must be shipped for delivery. You must order it by phone. Call 1-800-MY-APPLE, then ask for "software sales".

When you get a real person, ask for Snow Leopard Server, part number MC588Z/A. Be sure that the sales agent is not confusing it with Snow Leopard, which you do not want. If the sales person cannot find it and insists that it is not available, call back again and hope that you get a different salesperson.

I called multiple times on 5 September (see my post above), and every Apple salesperson insisted that it was no longer available. One was very convincing. I wonder if it was out of stock, and Apple decided to manufacture more copies? Whatever the cause, I just confirmed that it is available again.

Good luck!

P.S. I found this post on MacInTouch from "Dave G.", which gives a direct contact at Apple for those who want to buy Snow Leopard Server, part number MC588Z/A:

"I spoke with a very nice person who said it was fine to post her direct dial number and info for anyone else that wants to buy the Server edition. She knew exactly what I wanted and why. Here's her info:

Cassidy R.

Apple Specialist

p: (512) 526-2141

Th-M 10:15am - 7:15pm CDT

Give her a call if anyone else out there is still considering buying the server edition.

Thanks,

Dave G"

This is my first post in these forums so go easy on me if I flub it Smiley Happy

For anyone trying to get the Snow leopard Server software, I just did it today. With tax for my state (NC) it was $21.39 and free shipping:

SLS Order.jpg

You do have to call as it is not in the Apple Store itself, but apparently, only a few folks at Apple know about the strange behavior that "solutions" described in his 10/19/2016 note in the Macintouch forum. The Apple Specialist that I talked to said he had run into exactly the same problem trying to set up an order for a Lion Server. Apparently, once an item has been placed into their cart for ordering (it could be almost anything), all of a sudden a whole bunch of items become visible to them (including the MC588Z/A).

The fellow suggested that I tell anyone having an issue with this that they can contact him directly and he will try to help them get it as he did for me. Although he provided me with his phone number, he suggests that is not the best way to contact him and that you should use his email address instead. That way he can see it when it comes in even if he is on the phone, and he can then call you as soon as he is off it. Here is the info he sent me:

*Moderator edit: Removing 3rd party personal details. Posting someone else's contract information is not appropriate. For a solution to this problem, users should contact Apple, not one particular individual at Apple.

WiseManja,

2 years ago (2 Nov 2016 2:55pm), you apparently posted the contact information for an Apple employee that had assisted you purchasing Snow Leopard Server ("SLS"), but then apparently a VMware moderator deleted such contact information.

Do you still have the contact information you posted?

If so, would you please send it to me directly?

I host without charge several non-profits and suddenly have need to purchase and least one, maybe five, copies of SLS.

Any assistance you can give would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your time and efforts.

May God bless your day.

(I tried to message you directly, but that did not seem to work.)

If apple still sells it, you can just call their regular store phone number.  An alternative might be to join the developer program.

For what it's worth, make sure that those instances never connect to the internet - far too many vulnerabilities to be safe.
