Storage reservation based on used space, not on provisioned space

Hey,

was wondering why vRA reservation considers provisioned space and not used space.

The same with vRBusiness.

maybe its only me, but i don't care about provisioned space i want to charge for used and cost for used space only

coming across issues with provisioned space as well

in a test we provisioned machines and storage reservation was near limit.

a user created a snapshot on his machine (in vRA action on vm). request comes back as successful but snapshot is never created because it doesn't fit into the reservation (example: machine with 700GB prov and 350GB wen to 1000GB provisioned  when you would create a snapshot)

sad thing is no errors, not user notification. user will never know that the all-important snapshot does not exist

is there any way to change the behaviour to count only used storage? it would also help with cost comparison. my cloud will never be cheaper than AWS in comparison. But if I consider only used space (which I pay) vs provisioned space in AWS (which I pay), my own datacenter wins ...

Couldn't find anything to this, it feels like noone else is concerned with this?! Am I on my own?

No you aren't on your own, this makes our management of our reservations much harder by the business group managers. I have complained to VMware since 6.0.1. We run deduplicated NFS storage for our vmdks and run considerable over commitment of provisioned space to used space on our datastores depending on the storage tier. It makes converting a business request for more reservation space to actual deployed datastore space problematic. This has been an issue in all 6.x versions and VMware told me there wasn't a plan in 6.x to change it.

I haven't asked recently if this will change in 7.x, lets hope so.
