Is there a 30 day trial for the Windows version of VMware Player (commercial use)?

Hello

I'm working for an accessibility consultancy. We are holding workshops for our customers where we e.g. explain how to use screenreader software.

Installing and configuring such screenreaders is a tedious task, so in future we think about handing out virtual machines with pre-configured screenreaders. We are using the free, time limited Windows virtual machines from http://modern.ie.

I know that there is a 30 day trial for VMware Fusion on Mac. But I'm unsure about the Windows variants (VMware Workstation Player): while in the meta "description" of http://www.vmware.com/de/products/player/playerpro-evaluation.html‌‌‌, I can find "Testen Sie Workstation Player 30 Tage kostenlos." (check out Workstation Player free for 30 days), the installed demo has a text "Non-commercial use only" appended to its title.

So my concrete question is: are our business customers allowed to install the VMware Workstation Player demo and use it commercially for 30 days with out pre-configured virtual machines?

Thank you.

Hi,

Contact VMware Sales if you need an official answer as this is a forum for peer support (users helping out other users)

Contact Sales

I agree that this is quite unclear, the only part related to this that I could find is this:

VMware Workstation 12 Player - Email Address Collection

and this one:

VMware Workstation Player FAQs: Create and run virtual machines

Neither is giving an explicit answer on your question...

Another thing you could do is install the complete VMware Workstation, Workstation is more clear as in that the demo version is 30 days.

After 30 days you can continue using VMware Workstation, but only the Player part will work.

But it is more hassle and might be confusing for the user to install Workstation when all they need is Player.

The answer is no, there is no 30 day trial for corporate use. You are welcome to use WS Player 'free' to evaluate, but if it's used in a corporate setting beyond evaluating then it must be licensed.

Thanks for your answer.

So you mean, only non-corporate usage is allowed of the 30 days trial of Workstation? Is this the same for Fusion?

But for the player, the 30 days trial is allowed also for corporate usage, right?

Do you have official references for these assumptions?

By the way, I haven't heard anything from the sales dept. yet.

I still haven't got any reaction from the VMware support. Very disappointing. I may have to suggest VirtualBox instead of VMware, as we don't want to venture any legal issues.
