Ubuntu as guest - FAILS REPEATEDLY

I have repeatedly failed to get Ubuntu working with VMware tools. It seems they have an open-vm-tools that conflicts with the VMware tools provided by VMware Fusion. No combination I have tried works to share folders from the host. In both Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04, compiling the vmhgfs module fails, and contrary to the claim this compromises the entire VMware tools install. The compilation errors are numerous and not obvious.

Has anybody gotten a recent version of Ubuntu to work on VMware Fusion, including sharing folders from the host?

If so, HOW????

(I have many VMs working with various versions of Scientific Linux, which is derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I have never had any trouble installing the VMware Tools on any of them)

Hi tjrob,

I have read your thread in the

Please remember to reboot your Guest OS each step.

More info about HGFS. Hope it is help.

"modinfo vmhgfs" to check the version of driver kernel module "mount.vmhgfs"

"lsmod | grep vmhgfs" to check if vmhgfs module is loaded, if not loaded manually load by running "modprobe vmhgfs"

Cheers
