Has anyone moved the vRA 7.x SQL database to a SQL new server and problems found.

Hello,

I need to move the IAAS SQL database on my distributed vRA7.0.1 install to a new SQL server and instance. I can copy the actual DB. I have each layer behind load balencers

     - VRA CAFE - 2x appliances load balanced with embedded vRO

     - IAAS WEB - 2x 2012R2 IAAS Web servers

     - IAAS - 2x 2012R2 IAAS manager service , DEMs and agents.

Wondered if any one has done this and if the feeling is that it may be problematic. Will get VMware support to help me as I know some SQL table entries need to be changed.

There is a public KB for 6.x (2074607).

As this is a vRA development platform which a relatively simple setup I have the option to rebuild vRA from scratch but would prefer to migrate the DB.

Thanks

Chris

In 7.x there are less object to change in the config file (just search for your db server name). Apart from that the process is the same.

I have now moved the location of the 7.0.1 SQL DB and as Grant said with 7.0.1 it's basically the same as outlined in KB 2074607. Total outage about 2 hours.

For the MangerService.exe.config and Web.config on the IAAS server(s) you just change the data Source name to the new SQL name and update the DB name if changed.

Update the  DynamicOps.RepositoryModel.Models SQL table as specified in the KB.

Once restarted msdtc transactions are now successful and endpoints update.
