Apple's own applications do not work properly under Snow Leopard Server in Fusion 8 !?

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server in Fusion 8.1.1. It works generally OK with the following exception. Apple's own applications like Preview, Keynote, Numbers and Pages cannot display the content of documents. More specifically:

(1) Preview can display PDF files but not images (e.g. PNG). In this case it opens the image file without reporting any error but it displays a white (blank) page. Firefox and Safari on the other hand display properly the same image, either PDF or PNG. So the problem is not in the file.

(2) iWork '09 is unable to display anything. Like in the case of Preview with images, all iWork applications open their own files without reporting errors but they display blank pages. However, the Finder preview for such documents (activated by selecting the file and hitting the spacebar) works!

The VMware tools are updated to the latest version by reinstalling them through the menu. The problem occurs in both single-window and full-screen mode. I really don't understand what's going on.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Many OSX applications require 3d acceleration to function properly.  Unfortunately, no virtualization engine currently provides that capability.

10.6.8 is ancient, and more modern versions of those applications will run on a current host.  Best advice is to use them there.

Well, I don't know. I tried several settings in the virtual machine and nothing seems to work. I tried then the Keynote preferences. Still nothing at the level of editing, the slides remain blank, but something unexpected happened. While Keynote reported that it was not possible to play the slideshow because of too little video memory, which was not, it would let me nonetheless to rehearse it (which confirms that the video memory was more than enough). After activating the option "Allow Exposé, Dashboard and others to use the screen", the slideshow could play without problems! And this option is supposed to decrease performance.

But there is worse. I tried to take some screenshots with the usual key combination ctrl + cmd + 4. VMware reported that CPU has been disabled and this triggered a kernel panic which I could consistently reproduce. So it seems that my problem is related rather to the CPU than to the video memory amount or 3D acceleration.

As to 10.6.8 being ancient, what Windows 7 or Windows 2000 are? Aren't ancient too? However, they are perfectly supported in VMware. I guess that Mac OS X guests did not get enough attention, which is not exactly in line with the price target of Fusion.

No version of OSX has 3d acceleration support - the OS architecture doesn't support it.  It's a problem with any version of OSX as a guest, and there are many strange problems that crop up as a result.  No virtualization product - Fusion, Parallels, Virtual Box, provides 3d support for OSX guests...because they can't.

My comment about ancient was about those particular apps themselves.  Why not just run the current versions natively on the host?
