Can a PCI wifi adapter be given to a VM if the cpu supports VT-d?

A system has a wifi adapter on the PCI bus.  The CPU supports Directed I/O (VT-d):

Intel® Core™ i7-4710HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz) Specifications

Can the wifi adapter be given to a VM like usb devices can?  So the host is not exposed to the internet at all and only the VM is?

Hello,

No VMware Workstation has no PCI passthrough support so that will not work.

For the use case that you are mentioning however there is an existing workaround.

Checkout Darius his description on how-to do this here:

Re: Vmware workstation won't bridge wan ip address from nic to pfsense host. How?
