VMware Tools failing to start at boot

Running Fusion Pro 8.02 on El Capitan 10.11.3

Downloaded Lubuntu 16.04 and verified with SHA hash

Created new VM Guest without issue...

Updated OS, installed VMware Tools without installing the dependencies (gcc, make, binutils & kernel sources) as I didn't know it needed them and nothing came up during the install saying it needed them.

After reboot, I was not able able to drag files from the host to the guest (but could copy and paste for some reason)...

I installed a couple of programs with Synaptic and rebooted...

After reboot, the copy and paste no longer functioned, my screen resolution was crap and window resize no longer worked properly...

When I looked into the issue on Google, it soon appeared that VMware Tools had failed to load at boot...

I then discovered that the tools needed the afore-mentioned dependencies, so I trashed the VM and started from scratch...

I updated the OS, installed the dependencies, installed VMware Tools and rebooted...

I still could not drag files from the host to the guest (but could copy and paste for some reason)...

I tried shared folders and it worked also...

I figured it was an issue with Lubuntu and carried on...

I installed a couple of programs with Synaptic and rebooted...

After reboot, the copy and paste no longer functioned, my screen resolution was crap and window resize no longer worked properly...

Is there some way to get the tools to load at boot?

There is very little info on Google (for Fusion) and nothing from the search on the forum regarding this...

16.04 Ubuntu and 16.04 Xubuntu both installed the open-vm-tools during the install and everything worked flawlessly; unfortunately I don't like either of the user interfaces for those OS's. I wish Lubuntu would do the same but I have no control over that...

Is there anyone out there that has successfully installed the VMware Tools on Lubuntu 16.04?

Is there anyone out there that has successfully installed the open-vm-tools on Lubuntu 16.04?

Could someone direct me to some documentation regarding how to install either tool successfully?

I have read KB 2050592 and 1022525

I have removed and installed vmware tools many times and it refuses to work

I am so sorry about your issue. please let me to help you analysis this problem.

1 .Firstly could you help to check the vmware tools version? you can launch terminal and input "vmware-toolbox-cmd -v".

2. Could you provide the kernel information? "uname -a"

3. Could you let me know how to install the Ubuntu, easy install or regular install?

Thanks and Regards

Hi,

Ubuntu/Lubuntu 16.04 has been released after Fusion 8.0.2, the version of Fusion you mentioned (8.0.2) was released in October 2015.

Linux tends to change things in the bowels of the operating system regularly, so it is important to use a version of Fusion that is up to date with these changes if you want to run such a new operating system.

Fusion 8.1.1. has fixes specific for Ubuntu 16.04 so that would be the first thing to try,  upgrade to Fusion 8.1.1
