I'm new to the process that I'm going to describe, so please bear with my explanation.
We had an HP host in an existing cluster die outside of warranty. It was removed from the cluster and removed from service. It has 4 onboard NICs, three ports of which were in use. There was also a 4-port addin NIC, with three ports in use and a fiber card.
We have a newer server that was formerly a part of a different VMWare datacenter at a different location that we want to use as a replacement for the dead HP. The replacement has the same 4.0 version of ESX installed as the cluster that we want to add it to. It has two onboard NICS. I've moved the fiber and the 4-port network card over to the replacement, so WWN's and MAC's are the same. I've reordered the NIC's, using VMWare KB article 1000266 and changed the IP address for vswif0 to match the network that it is going on. What I'm needing to know is, when I plug in and power up the server and add it to the cluster, will the new hosts' NIC configuration be updated from VCenter? For example, will the portgroup names, VLAN ID's, uplink information, etc...... be configured for the vSwitches on the ESX host?
Or, will I need to manually configure all the settings on the host via command line. Again, thanks for your patience in reading and responding to this.
If there's something that I'm missing, or if there is a KB article that describes the step-wise procedures that will help me accomplish this task, please
