Backup AppStack vmdk files

Well simple question, how can you backup the AppStacks?

The AppStacks are stored on a VMFS volume and not attached to a VM which is part of the backup.

I am kind of supprised this topic is not part of the App Volumes documentation.

Any progress on this topic?

Will App Volumes 3.0 have any support for backups?

All,

From my view of AV 3.0 you will not need to backup the datastores, cause you store your AppCaptures on a File Share. This is the location you will backup and that should be in your standard file server backup scheduling. You also will have a  AppCapture Workspace Share that should has the new and previous AppCapture Versions/Updates.

VMware made it a lot more like ThinApp Capturing so it is easier to store and manage your AppStacks. Now the question is, will they continue to go in that direction.

Even then so, appstacks are read only and not really subject to a lot of change. My point still stands that you need to have a backup routine for writable volumes, appstacks are not that important (or at least easily done manually).

There is a fling for backing up writable volume but in my understanding it should be build into the applications so you could backup writable volumes.

I agree with you 100%, that's why I did not mention writable volumes, they should be part of some backup solution within the product.

But AV3 is not even close to production, in my opinion, and the WV/UEM features are still in a beta state. So lets see what happens in the up and coming releases.
