vR Ops Version 6.2.0.3445568 Guest File System Stats not working

HI all,

My first post here and new to vR Ops.

I am trying to set up a view where I can see all Linux VMs whose / partition is over 90% full (or even 10% full for that matter).  My problem is that while the view picks up some servers correctly, it does not have any idea about / partition usage for most Linux VMs.  The way I have set it up is

• Start new view
• Give it a name
• Choose "List" in Presentation tab (only need two columns so deleted columns 3 and 4)
• Choose "Virtual Machine" in Subjects
• in Data, choose "Guest File System stats --> / --> Guest File System Usage (%).  This example is attached below

• Then in the filter I filtered for Metrics; Guest Filesystem stats|Guest File Systme Usage (%); is greater than; 10%

After this, I selected one of my ESXi servers as preview source but out of ~110 Linux servers, I only see 10 servers with / partition usage above 10% but I know for a fact that this is wrong.  All Linux servers in my environment, come out at around 14% upon provisioning.

Am I doing something wrong?  Does vR Ops need some time to pickup the changes from the VMs?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried using another metrics like Disk Space Usage (%) ?

What I have come to realize is that those vROPs metrics could mean entirely different things from vCenter.

How many active policies do you have? If you have multiple policies associated with different custom groups and the metric is not enabled in them all it could show the condition you are facing.

I only have one policy.  I'm pretty new at vR Ops so I am running just the default.

Do you have multiple policies for different SLA?

Yes I just tried that as per your suggestion but I still cannot get the / partition's usage.  Furthermore, the view does not show all my RHEL servers.  I get only like 20 of over 100.

Can you click on the Blue Icon next to the Metrics dropdown and search for a VM (RHEL) and select the same to see its metrics. This will show you how the partitions are laid out in the metrics. Now you can select the partitions which you want to include in the view..

That's really useful Sunny, I am having the same issue. Trying to create a report which replicates the "Top health alerts for descendants" in the recommendations tab "One or more virtual machine guest file systems are running out of disk space"

It is however a real shame you can't wildcard the mount point for both data and filter, in a view, to give something like "Guest File System stats|*|Guest File System Usage (%)" having to individually specify the mount points is a PITA and more importantly will lead to custom mount points being missed!

It also the same problem for windows system drives and we haven't looked at windows mount points yet.

Yeah..I know what you mean. Unfortunately that option is not in the VIEW yet, although it is available in symptoms under the advanced settings...
