Write access to external NTFS partition outside of Fusion

Hi,

I am running VMWare Fusion Version 8.1.0 on my iMac retina 5K with El Capitan and I'm happy with it. However, occasionally I need to quickly write from OS X to an external (USB) NTFS harddisk.

Is there any component or driver within the Fusion package which enables me to do that without completely starting Windows 10 under Fusion?

Thanks in advance for any comment or reaction.

Hans

Hi Hans,

It sounds like you are looking for a way to read and write NTFS-formatted external drives from your Mac. It has nothing to do with VMware, right? VMware does not include a special tool for reading/writing NTFS from the Mac. The ability to read and write NTFS formatted disks is entirely in your Windows 10 virtual machine guest.

There are several solutions to your problem. Some people have found free solutions, and there are also commercial products that you can buy and install on your Mac. Try a web search for "read write NTFS Mac El Capitan" and you will find many solutions. Here are a few that I found, but please note that I have not tried them myself:

Some good ideas, including solutions that are free:

Purchased software from Paragon ($20). Note: According to what I found on the web, sometimes Paragon's software is included as a value-added feature with certain hard drives (e.g., from Seagate):

Paragon NTFS for Mac® 14 - Write / read access to NTFS under OS X El Capitan - Introduction

There are many other solutions and other commercial products, too. I hope this answers your question.
