Upgrading an ESXi host from 5.1 to 5.5 (or direcet to 5.5.0U3?)

Hello everyone. I am curious if I can upgrade a single (non-VC managed) host from 5.1 to 5.5.0U3a directly or do I have to upgrade to 5.5 then do the patches/rollups? Also, I do not have the upgrade tab so I am looking for help on how to actually do the upgrade... just download the iso and boot from it and do an in-place upgrade after I go to maint mode, shut down the VMs?

Thanks guys!!

You can upgrade directly to version 5.5 Update 3 and the easiest way is just boot from the ISO and then do the interactive upgrade. See this link for additional details: Upgrading to VMware ESXi 5.5 using the Interactive Installer - Support Insider - VMware Blogs

Hi,

it should also work from the command line.

esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e true -r httpClient

esxcli software profile update -d https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/vmw-depot-index.xml -p ESXi-5.5.0-20151204001-Standard

Kind regards,

Roland
