How to check if a new version is available from inside the guest

Host is NOT given internet access so Workstation's built-in version checker cannot be used.

Can it be used from inside the guest?  Is there a page on this site somewhere that shows the current version of VMware Workstation without you having to log in to My VMware, so a script can perhaps wget that page and parse it to find out the version?

Alternatively, how do you make this site alert you by email when a new version is available?

Hi,

If you want to see the mechanism that is being used ...

Go to this URL:

https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/

Then either enumerate the workstation folder OR as you say wget the xml there and parse out the versions.
