Unable to apply Westmere EVC mode

Hello,

I am having trouble applying the Westmere EVC mode on my esx hosts.

I have two Supermicro X8DTL servers with two Xeon E5620 CPUs.

Both are identical units. The CPUs are Westmere, but will not take that template, I can only apply Nehalem to the servers.

I went through every option in bios and all virtualization options are enabled.

Both servers are running ESXi 5.5.0 update 3248547

Is there a way to solve this?

The first question I would ask is, if both CPUs are Westmere, why are we enabling EVC? vMotion will work just fine without EVC as both are same gen CPUs.

Are we planning to add some higher gen CPU in the future?

I went through every option in bios and all virtualization options are enabled.

Only to rule this out, please double-check whether "Execute Disable" (XD) is enabled on both hosts. This setting is often located under Security, rather than CPU/Virtualization.

x2 to what Andre said. I am sure it is a BIOS setting that is not enabled.
