VROPs - Creating reports for VMs that been down for 60 days or long

We have a requirement for creating a scheduled monthly report for VMs that are been down for 60 days or more. I thought using the Default View "Reclaimable Disk space from Virtual Machines for a significant time" for creating that report would be the best option. But the date filtering option in that View is not giving an option to pick anything older than a specific date.

There are option to pick Last specif Days" , also has option to relative and absolute dates > not sure which option is optimal for filtering to see my specific view. Date range seems also seems to be a good option but it need both From and To dates. It would have been nice if we could pick only the "To" Date and leave the From Date any thing older than To date,

Any help on this is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Matz

I think this could be a really useful report, but when I was testing with the built-in View the time settings did not have any effect on which VMs were listed.  It appears that it is showing all VMs that are powered off, regardless of the time settings or how long the VM has been powered off.  I played with the filters and couldn't find a way to filter out VMs based on the length of time they have been powered off.  What I did to work around this was add a column for the metric "Summary|Powered Off Time %" and set the Transformation to Average.  If the VM has been powered off for the entire time period the average will still be 100%.  If it was powered on at any point the average powered off time will be less than 100%.  Another metric you could use with this is "Summary|Powered Off" with the Transformation set to Minimum.  If the VM was off for the entire time period the minimum will be "1", otherwise it will be "0".  I thought the percentage was easier to understand, so I went with that.  For the time settings I'm just using the last 2 months.  I've attached the View I'm using.

you can consider two things I believe and let me try to help you on this .

1 . VM's which are idle for 60 days

2. VM's which are powered off for 60 days

Hi ,

I just tried to create the report of VM's which are down from 60 days

unfortunately i am also stuck in this and either we need to get the help from some one or need to explore.

as I am not able to find the option to  set "from last 60 days"

Just have a look at the other parameters which is mentioned. This will pull the report  but will list all the vm's which are down no matter from when on-wards it is down , also i tried to capture the powred off date in the summary tab , that option is also not there .

Note : I have excluded name starting with replica* here for horizon view environment .

This sounds like perfect. If we want to change that 60 days to something else what else need to be changed into the view other than Time Settings?

Thanks a lot dtaliafe

Just change the time settings in the View and the name to reflect the new time period.  Nothing else should need to be changed.

Please help, If we can have VMs powered off for over 2months in vRops and since vrops is saving a deleted VM for 15j only then these powerd off VMs are not deleted?

How can I know that a powerd off VM is deleted ?

Powered off VMs will not be deleted.  Only after you delete the VM from vCenter will vROps delete it, after the number of hours you have set in the global settings.

I got it to work, I am using vROPS 7 and the property for powered off was a little different.

Is there a way to exclude VMs from this report?

Is there anyway to add a date to any of these reports?
