check time sync status from vmware tools command line

Hello,

I was looking for method in command line to check the time sync status of guest, I want to set it to sync with host on windows guest, but first want to see what is the current status. Since we upgraded to 5.5 vsphere, the GUI is not available for the same option.

Please assist.

Regards,

My only suggestions is: do not use vmware-tools for time-syncing. Use proper software for this task (ntp-server and ntp-clients). Even VMware recommends it (can not find link to KB in my bookmarks right now, but I have read it somewhere here on this website)...

Hello,

here is the case, before upgrading from vsphere 5.0 to 5.5 I set my windows DC's to sync their time with Esxi hosts on which they are running and Esxi hosts are getting time from NTP server in our office, that NTP sync with internet.

After upgrading to vsphere 5.5 I never noticed this change of GUI in vmware tools, now when we recently moved our DC from windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2, I was looking for this option in Win 2012 DC VM in vmware tools to set it to sync with Esxi host but could not get this.

So, this is the reason I am looking for it, now I found this method from command line, see attached photosync.jpg

Here I found status as disabled, if I set it to 'enable' what does that mean? Enables means taking time from Esxi host? I am not clear on this. The only windows VM's we set with this are domian controllers then all member machines are getting time from DC's.

Waiting for response.
