Understanding CPU Licences in vSphere Server Standard

Hi,

I am just after a little info about understanding the physical CPU licenses included in vSphere Server Standard and how many CPU cores are allowed.

A long story short I want to set up a FT environment consisting of two ESXi hosts with two physical CPU's in each host connected to a central SAN for a total of 48 Cores (24 Pr a host).

Would the vSphere Server Standard License suit this need?

Thanks,

Marcus

ESXi hosts are licensed by CPU sockets, i.e. physical CPUs. So what you need in order to run FT (assuming you are using vSphere 6) is a license for vCenter Server - either Standard, or Foundation (for up to 3 ESXi hosts) - and 4 CPU Standard licenses (1 for each CPU). Please keep in mind that FT with Standard CPU licenses is limited to 2 vCPUs per FT-VM (see Compare VMware vSphere Editions | United States)
