Any ideas, this is explicitely speaking to the Intel Xeon D-1540 platforms that include 10G option? IE: SuperMicro X10SDV-TLN4F
Any takers? I'm hearing reports it does not work in vSphere but does in Hyper-V which is depressing. Is there a custom vib or driver hack out there yet that anyone is aware of?
Same goes for ESXi 6.0 Update 1, still no built-in x552/x557 support, unfortunately.
Adding twitter plea for help to the mix:
I tried the Twitter, no joy:
and my VMware EVALExperience license has no support.
Anybody got a X552/X557 mobo, and a legit way to reach out to VMware support, to inquire about support?
I have created a Twitter timeline screenshot, because the thread was broken up in various chunks. Seen here, under my original article here.
Net, still no new info.
We ran into the same problem, we buy 4x SuperServer 5018D-FN4T with full RAM and SSD to test the VSAN 6.1.
But now we have 4 server with only 1GBit nic's.
There any chance to build the Intel ixgbe 4.1.2 driver into a VIB format ? (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/14687/Network-Adapter-Driver-for-PCI-E-10-Gigabit-Network-...)
We try now try to set up a VMware ESXi toolchain build env. 6 like here (VMware Front Experience: How to build device drivers for ESXi 5.x) but we have problems that the toolchian build environment runs...
It can't be so hard for Intel and VMware to build this drivers as VIB !?
I've obtained a date estimate from Intel, woo hoo! We'll save the rejoicing until it actually arrives and we've tested it, but still, this is good news:
Have a great weekend everybody!
Thank GOODNESS/good riddance/about time!!! Thanks for the update pbraren and everyone else who contributed to a lively thread discussion and hopefully a resolution very soon. Now to holdout for a SFP+ variant of this platform once this drops otherwise I may be in the market for a new switch which is 'weak sauce' in my book for a guy who already invested in a SFP+ 10GbE switch...not to mention the physical characteristic flaws in copper 10G...GRRR!
Well, if SFP is your thing, then this might work for you:
Hi,
Same problem here... Any update ? Possible to download the vib in development ? I need to install the machine, but doesn't work on ESXi 6...
Regards,
Ravzone35Ravzone35Ravzone35, I have some (potentially) good news for you!
Just a moment ago, I published this:
Looking forward to how others do with testing this new ixgbe version 4.1.1.1 VIB (sadly, I currently can't get to the VIB download site).
Eventually, assuming it works well, it'd be great if it made its way into Andreas Peetz repository for super simple installs:
http://www.v-front.de/2015/04/esxi-60-hits-vmware-online-depot-what.html
This approach would also bring an end to our download/entitlement worries.
Thanks for the update !
I can't download it, there is no drivers for the product (esxi 6). A bug on the website ?
Regards,
Yeah, it seems nobody is able to download it.
My VMware has been having all sorts of issues lately:
https://twitter.com/paulbraren/status/660123084121358337
I clicked the feedback button from the download site, and am attempting to work off an existing SR# for entitlement related access issues, with no luck reaching anybody. Will keep trying...
Now it is for download !
Choose 5.5 and then on the drivers and tools page :
https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=DT-ESXI55-INTEL-IXGBE-4111&productId=353
Best regards

YES!
Nicely done!
Curious how you found it, and if that's ESXi 6.0 you're using with that 5.5 driver.
Pretty nice timing, given I (temporarily) have 2 5028D-TN4T systems with 2 Cat 6a cables directly between them, and 2 Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 drives on the way, arriving tomorrow.
Yes sure because every time I download something VMware shows me that:
So I look at 5.5
Hi,
yes I confirm, it's working fine, you have just to create a custom ISO of ESXi 6.0 (integrate de vib) and it's working fine now . I can upload it if you want,
Thanks for the update,
Regards,
Thanks for the offer!
Actually, I'm all set now, downloaded and installed the 5.5 VIB on my ESXi 6.0 Update 1a just fine, wrote up simple method draft here:
Now that's how things should look!
VMware has now fixed the download links found at the X552/X557 download site:
https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=DT-ESXI55-INTEL-IXGBE-4111&productId=353
and it turns out yes, they're all the same VIB:
ixgbe-4.1.1.1-1331820-3187103.zip
So ends this long story, 5.5 and 6.0 users are all set now, and any My VMware account login will allow you to access the drivers.
This also marks a new chapter, testing this NIC out...
