why we have to use vMA

Hi .

i have deployed vMA on my esxi 5.5  and i read complete vMA guide and understand command such as ( vifp addserver , vifp list server , vifp reconfigure , ...)

but i am confused what is the benefit of vMA ?

where can i  user this?

why do i have to use vMA ?

First off, you don't have to use the vMA. It's a completely optional utility VM.

The main idea is that the vMA allows you to run ESXi shell commands like esxcli, esxcfg-vswitch etc from a single centralized system on your hosts without having to login to every host locally via SSH.

The vifp commands just setup the authentication between the vMA and your hosts (and vCenter).

To be honest it depends on what you are trying to do.  I mainly advise that if people want to use linux based commands that they deploy their own linux machine and install vCLI to get the commands, they then have the benefit of their standard OS platform which they can use with their companies standard tool-sets and hardening guidelines, they can also modify the box and install additional tools needed.  VMware's stance on Appliances is that you should not alter them so installing additional software in vMA may cause a situation where an upgrade may not work or put you in an unsupported circumstance.

but i could not get my answer now i have deployed vMA now what benefit doest it had for me? for example can i execute linux command on esxi with vMA or  how can update my esxi ? or .........

what are main benefits of vMA ?

i just understand one of that benefit is  we can add all of my esxi host to vMA and just connect to vMA for manage all of them

what are other benefit of vMA ?
